Democrats seek FBI probe
Democrats seek FBI probe into Russian hackers probably seeking to influence U.S. vote
Democrats seek FBI probe into accusation of Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russian hacking attempts into the DNC, DCCC and voter databases either to influence or undermine U.S. Presidential election.
As a result, Senate leader Harry Reid and Congress Democrats, in a letter asked the FBI to investigate the Russian government; attempting to undermine the U.S. presidential election through cyber-attacks that could influence voting results.
In the Letter: Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid is calling on the FBI to conduct a quick and thorough investigation into concerns the Russian government is trying to undermine the U.S. presidential election, including by tampering with official election results.
“The prospect of a hostile government actively seeking to undermine our free and fair elections represents one of the gravest threats to our democracy since the Cold War,” Reid said in a letter to FBI Director James Comey.
“It is critical for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to use every resource available to investigate this matter thoroughly and in a timely fashion,” Reid added. The letter, dated Aug. 27, was obtained by The New York Times and posted on its website on Monday.
Most noteworthy is the lines, “The prospect of a hostile government actively seeking to undermine our free and fair elections represents one of the gravest threats to our democracy since the Cold War,” Reid said “Use every resource available to investigate this matter thoroughly and in a timely fashion”.
Hence, in letter Tuesday from Democrats, asking James Comey the current Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), to check whether campaign officials working for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump are conspiring with Russians to carry out hacks against the DNC and DCCC to “interfere with the U.S. presidential election.”
Especially relevant, the Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee databases hacked show a foot-print; leading directly to the Russia government.
Why are the cyber hacks just happening to the Democratic Party?:
Furthermore one can only speculate that these hacks were the result of an indirect request by the Republican presidential nominee to hack into Hillary’s server to find lost emails? It seems like the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump plotted with Russian interest secretly using his own email server. Maybe Trump would represent Russian interests with less interference and regulations; giving Russia more control.
Whatever the reasons for the attacks, all the top Democrats in various committees signed the second letter; including U.S. House of Reps., Ranking Member of the Oversight and Government Reform; John Conyers U.S. House of Reps., Dean of the United States House of Representatives; Elliot Engel U.S. House of Reps., Ranking Minority Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Bennie Thompson U.S. House of Reps., Ranking Member Committee on Homeland Security, for the investigation to go ahead.
James Comey, the FBI Director, on Tuesday; speaking at a cyber security conference, declined to give details about the investigation probe into the Democratic political attacks. However, [paraphrasing] specified that the agency was closely monitoring the activities of foreign countries and what they are doing.
“We take very seriously any effort by any actor, … especially nation states, that moves beyond the collection of information … and offers the prospect of an effort to influence the conduct of affairs in our country, whether that is an election or something else,” he said.
Especially relevant is that the letters follow a wave of cyber-attacks; targeting U.S. Democratic political databases. US cyber security experts blame the hacks on the Russian government. Kremlin officials have denied involvement.
Furthermore the Democratic Leader Harry Reid said, “The evidence of a direct connection between the Russian government and Donald Trump’s presidential campaign continues to mount… the former Acting CIA Director, to call Trump an “”unwitting agent” of Russia and the Kremlin.”
In addition, the FBI has identified breaches in voter registration databases in Arizona and Illinois. However, they have yet to specify who’s behind the hacks.
Senator Reid said that the threat of Russian government tampering in the election was “more extensive than widely known and may include the intent to falsify official election results.”
In conclusion from the letter, [paraphrasing] there should be a full investigation and made public – agreed!
